Heating Bats

College baseball has changed a little this season with the new bats.  Granted we are only a few weeks into the season but we aren't seeing as many high scoring games this season.  Balls that used to get out are barely making it to the warning track.  Pitchers can pitch more to contact and can breathe a little easier every time the ball goes in the air.  But some things will never change.  From hitters rolling their bats to pitchers doctoring the ball, baseball has always been a game of players looking for an edge and sometimes they get caught.  There has been a lot of talk this past week about South Carolina and Jackie Bradley heating their bats.  Any team can heat their bats and if it makes a difference than they should.  As for now, it's up to the umpire's discretion but I don't see how they could throw out a bat because it's warm.  I don't think it's any different than a pitcher blowing into his hand or licking his fingers.  I think the NCAA needs to decide whether it's covered in the rulebook so people stop complaining and it isn't up to the umps.

March Madness

I can't believe March Madness is right around the corner.  Is there a better postseason in college athletics?  There's no BCS system that decides who plays for the National Championship.  It's win or go home.  For some teams making the tournament is their season but there's always a Cinderella.  It's teams like Butler last year and George Mason a couple years ago that make the tournament exciting and picking these teams always gives you the upper hand in bragging rights. (Your friends don't know you filled out 39 brackets and it just so happened you picked the Cinderella in one of them).  Filling out a bracket is tougher than that mid-term that you studied a little for to get a respectable grade but knew you didn't study for enough.
