Our 2011 season is under way with our first official practice this past Friday. We have a good mix of youth and experience which I think will really help our club. Our defense finished in the top 5 in the country last year and we return most of the infield and outfield. We lost a couple bats in our lineup but we regrouped and have some guys to fill those voids. Offense and defending the field will be our strengths and pitching is our big question mark.
With the losses of a couple guys to the draft and the loss of a couple other guys to surgery we will need some guys to step up. We have a couple position players who are going to log some innings for us and complete a staff that finished with an ERA of over 6 last year. Right now one of the polls has us finishing 9th in the conference but that is where we are picked every year. I think if this team comes together and plays well we could make some noise come tournament time. We will be tested early with games against Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Bethune-Cookman, and a series against Florida. It will be exciting to see how we stack up against these teams and I think it will be an indicator as to how the season will play out for us.
