Dice K

The Red Sox still have Matsuzaka under contract through 2012 after signing him to a six year, $52 million deal in 2006.  They also paid over $50 million just to negotiate so they have a lot of money invested in him.

I don't think trading him would be the best option at this point and I'm not sure if any team would even be interested after his first two outings of the season and the contract they would inherit.

Matsuzaka is 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA in two starts and his WHIP is 2.71.  He's never been a pitcher who pounds the zone but his "stuff" was good enough to win.

After watching his performance against the Rays (who were only hitting .163 as a team) there has to be some impatience.  Everything was flat and up in the middle part of the zone.

Francona has said that Matsuzaka will stay in the rotation.  If he continues to throw the way he has in his first two starts something has to change.  He can't be thrown into the bullpen because he walks way too many.

Unless he shows some improvement in his next outing I think they will send him down to get his confidence back and, hopefully for the Sox, the old Dice K will return.
