Have you ever been to a sporting event where they shoot shirts out of the cannons and everyone goes absolutely nuts? There is something about new gear that even makes grown men grow crazy. It's almost like there's Four Lokos flying out of there or something. The best part about it is when you finally catch one of those shirts it's always a size or two too small and it has advertisements all over it with the smallest team logo possible.
We always get our new team gear after we come back from Christmas break. You never know what day it's all going to come but as soon as the first guy finds out he runs into the locker room announcing that the "gear is here". Seriously, it's better than Christmas. As a general rule we go by class starting with seniors for obvious reasons. After you grab your stack of gear you get to flaunt it in front of the younger guys standing in line. Then it's like Dane Cook's "movie critic" skit and you have to give your stance on every piece of gear. We switched to Under Armour this year so we got new uniforms this year. Talk about a historic day in the equipment room. Guys were putting on their full units... sliders, socks, jerseys, pants, belts, helmets, batting gloves, and even spikes. You have to see what these babies are going to look like. As my last year for free gear has past I realized I'm going to miss this day and the only free gear I have to look forward to it those shirts flying out of cannons. I'll probably go crazy and maybe, just maybe, catch a free shirt.
